Beats ‘Happy New Year’s day one record by a big margin and is likely to cross the Rs 100 crore mark on Sunday
SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali – The Beginning’, starring Prabhas, Rana, Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah in the lead roles, will be the first Telugu film which will cross the magical Rs 100 crore mark at the box-office. It is set to break the record established by Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Attarintiki Daaredhi’ whose overall collections stood at somewhere between Rs 86-88 crore.
Released on Friday globally, the first part has set the cash registers ringing by grossing approximately Rs 55 crore on the first day worldwide. "It's a phenomenal start. Early estimate suggests that the film has grossed about Rs 55 crore on release day worldwide. This way, it may even reach the Rs 100 crore club over the weekend," said a trade analyst.
The first day revenue is the best for any Indian film till date. The previous best was Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Happy New Year’ whose first day collections stood at Rs 44.97 crore. In almost all key centres across the two Telugu-speaking states, ‘Baahubali’ has set new revenue benchmarks for day one, beating films like ‘Attarintiki Daaredhi’, ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’, ‘Baadshah’, ‘Oosaravelli’ and ‘Simha’ in the process by a big margin.
In US alone, the biggest overseas market for Telugu films, it collected a whopping Rs 15 crore with a lion’s share coming from the Thursday previews. The film’s opening day collections in the US are higher than that of Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’. While the Aamir-starrer had collected around $0.97 million on its first day, ‘Baahubali’ raked in almost $1.3 million.
The film has collected Rs 5.15 crore from its Hindi version alone, highest for a dubbing film till date. In Karnataka too, it has set the box-office on fire, collecting Rs 10.5 crore gross. With the Telugu version showing no decrease in footfalls on Saturday, it will only be a matter of time before it emerges as the highest grossing Telugu and south Indian film of all time.
